CNRA News & Updates

I woke up this morning about 9 and thinking it sounded quite, looked out of my back window to see thick fog over Chestnuts Park. I was still a bit sleepy, but didn’t want to miss the opportunity to grab some interesting photos of the park in the mist.

Outside on Clarence Road the fog was quite thin, but when I turned the corner into the entrance to the park it was still heavy over the field, so I managed to shoot these pics before the sun burned the fog away…

Minutes of the CNRA meeting held on Thursday, 11 September 2008 at the West Green Learning Centre

C welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Introductions

were made.  

1. Minutes

   of the last meeting were circulated and quickly read
   Amendment to item no. 2 of the last meeting: “currently (insertion) no need to raise money to pay for hire of the Learning Centre”. With this amendment, the minutes were accepted as a true and accurate record.

2. Matters arising

   not on the agenda: none.

3. Street party:

   C reported that the general feeling was good as to people, food, weather, children’s games etc and new people had attended.  Three dishes remained unclaimed.

4. Car parking update:

   In a private capacity, DF, RG from Black Boy Lane, GK, and JD had attended a further meeting with the Council on the previous Tuesday. It was explained that at the last CRA meeting, we agreed the CNRA would pull its officers out of the parking sub-group so that the sub-group could not represent the association and that it should change its name to something like a parking action group.The Council appears to want to extend the Black Boy Lane & CNRA area into Green Lanes Extension zone B, although objections had been raised to this. If it goes ahead, the hours of controlled parking would not be reviewed until the next financial year beginning in April 2009. DF had a copy of the timetable the council will be working to, which includes a 21-day period in which objections can be made and counted by the council as a basis on which they will make the decision whether to go ahead or not  i.e. it will be a matter of whether we are included in the extension or not – objecting to the proposed hours will not move us into full consultation.  Agreed that CNRA would circulate a notice explaining the present situation and include the council’s timetable, as well as a list of charges.  The notice the council will distribute on 23rd October appears not to be a consultation period as residents are given 21 days to respond and the necessary works are due to start on 13 November, the date the notification period finishes.

5. Health service update:

   DM had brought leaflets about the regular Tuesday morning protest at St. Anne’s Hospital, the HQ of the PCT for the borough.  40 people had attended a public meeting of the Council Scrutiny committee the previous day where they had promised to consult, engage and listen to people concerning the future of St. Anne’s and its land.  DM will circulate information as he receives it

6. CNRA AGM:

   Although this was planned for the next meeting on Wednesday, October 8th 2008, it has now been put back to November.

7. Lordship Rec. Community Festival:

   To be held the following Saturday, 13th September 2008. DM had leaflets and is co-ordinating the volunteers, more of which are urgently required.  There will be peace-related activities as part of a wider Peace Week.

8. Friends of Chestnuts Park

   Had held a picnic in the park a week or so earlier.  There will be a meeting of the park’s strategy group  on Monday 15th September, for people from the Friends group, the school and the Parks dept. and the general public are welcome to attend.

9. Car Club:

   Haringey Council has appointed the Streetcar company to run it within the borough and supplied 30 parking bays borough-wide.  GK has more information on how to become a member and at what prices and the charges that will be levied per mile etc

10. Black Boy Lane Crossing:

    Woodland Park RA agreed at their meeting of the previous evening to put more pressure on LB Haringey to install a new crossing.  There are issues re moving the bus-stop and raising funds from TfL. The meeting agreed to liase with Woodlands Park RA and approved DM to do so.

11. Any Other Business:

    1. Rubbish dumping in Falmer Road:

       DM agreed to talk to people concerned 

    2. HMOs:

       David Lammy, MP, and Haringey Council are taking on the landlords and looking for the 6 worst examples of HMO over-crowding in Haringey 

    3. Sustainable Haringey network:

       will be holding a street party etc during Wood Green High Road’s car free day on Sunday 28 September 2008: cars will be banned in the area from Turnpike Lane to past the library; Also encouraging people to grow food i.e. vegetables across the borough in available space, not just in allotments and back gardens

12. Date & Time of Next Meeting:

    7.30pm Weds 8th Oct at the West Green Learning Centre

The next CNRA meeting will take place on Weds 8th Oct 2008 at 7.30pm. The meeting will be held at the West Green Learning Centre on West Green Road opposite the top of Clinton Road.

New Yellow Lines on Falmer Road

Following a period of extreme parking difficulties in our local area, we have seen people parking wherever possible and some less considerate ones parking where it shouldn’t be possible.

The CNRA along with local residents, concerned that sight-lines were being obscured for people wanting to cross the street, contacted the council and requested that double-yellow lines be painted on all street corners that were affected. The council agreed to the request and have now completed the painting of these yellow lines on corners in our streets.

Hopefully this will also have the additional benefit of clearing the corners enough for the dustcarts to get round to empty all of our bins!
